About Canary Yellow

Dogs influenced a color name in a roundabout way. CANARY YELLOW comes from the Latin word canis, "dog." in 40 B.C. King Juba of Numidia, an ancient land in northwest Africa, found some islands in the Atlantic. He reported that a great number of wild dogs lived there. Based on this information, the Romans later named the islands Canariae Insulae, Dog Islands. When the Spanish saw the little yellow songbirds that live there, they named them canarias after the islands. The color canary yellow was named after the birds.
