About Amethyst
A Greek legend tells of Amethyst, a lovely nymph who implored the goddess Artemis to protect her from the advances of the wine god Dionysus. So Artemis changed Amethyst into a gemstone. And Dionysus turned the stone the color of wine in memory of his lost love. The color AMETHYST comes from this precious stone. The original Greek word améthystos means "something that prevents drunkenness." The ancient Greeks believed that anyone who wore an amethyst could not get drunk.
